Hotel complex in Kos
The five-star hotel is located in the Tigaki coastal area, on the island of Kos; the hotel is expected to be completed in two stages.
Primarily, this architectural study concerns the design of a 150-room hotel unit, including suites, junior and two-room suites. Additionally, the study includes a restaurant, which is designed for guests and non-guests, an exterior bar with a direct sight of the central pool, a mall as well as open and semi-open relaxation space areas.
The gently undulating land, is being developed vertically to the ocean; a fact that contributed to the locating development of the functional areas.
At first sight, the common restaurant – café zone with the sea view along with a part of the mall, are visible from the main road. The reception desk along with its visible from the vertical road entrance, are designed as a part of the visitor’s experience.
The central pool along with the exterior bar and the relaxation areas, act as an intermediate transitional area, between the dining area and the rooms, which are located on a higher level, aiming to privacy and unobstructed view.
The buildings that include the hotel rooms are developed in two levels, with the ones located on the ground floor to be equipped with private yards. Additionally, some of those are sharing a common pool while others have their own. On the floor level, terraces are being developed, some of which include a jacuzzi.
The designing process follows a basic principle, which is referred to the structure of the traditional Kos settlements. Streaming paths end in small common yards, with access to the entrances and the scales towards the rooms. The rooms set up and the design of the hotel in general, are being developed in a way that reflects a stroll sensation, through a symphony between modern and traditional. Narrow corridors alternate with plazas, the light with the shade, introversion with extroversion. Additionally, the building’s volume refers to the block architecture of the island.
We selected the local stone as the main filing material, which is combined with thin-layered plaster pieces on the front view of the ground floor’s walls. This way a “base” is being created in relation to which the external designs are being engaged with. The white raw plaster, meets the floor level walls, and deliver a lighter sensation of the entire building volume.
Finally, the planting is being developed through the open-air streets and the water elements, creating this way a harmonic and summer scene.
