This 170 sq.m. residence is located in a flat, lush area in Pithari, Chania, offering unobstructed views toward the Souda Bay.
The design aimed to create a building that emerges from the landscape and harmonizes with it, incorporating its qualitative characteristics both internally and externally.
The architectural concept is based on two “wings,” each serving a distinct function:
• To the south, the living areas open generously toward the sea.
• To the north, the private areas embrace a sheltered garden.
The two wings are connected by corridors, where natural light filters through skylights and courtyards, forming a space of continuous movement and transitions, free from rigid separations.
In both wings, the goal was for the outdoor spaces to function as natural extensions of the interior—and vice versa.
Along these corridors, artworks and planted courtyards coexist, transforming daily movement through the home into a multisensory experience.
A single, organically shaped slab defines the outline of the building, lending a sense of freedom to an otherwise rigorous floor plan. This slab also acts as a canopy and, through its variously shaped openings, creates a dynamic interplay of light and shadow.
On the rooftop, a roof garden with a seating area offers residents a second living level, in direct contact with nature and the horizon.
Parking is discreetly organized at the northern edge of the plot, in a way that does not interfere with the interior experience.
This project is an exercise in composition, light, and landscape—a house that does not impose itself on the environment, but becomes an organic part of it.
