This study concerns the interior and exterior redesigning of an old residence located in the center of Chania city.
Our main goal was to redefine the functional zones clearly, to minimize the internal movement and to maintain comfort, through the new floor plan. The everyday living areas – kitchen, dining room, living room – form a single whole, through the visuals that connect them, while the private areas – bedrooms, office, bathrooms – are being arranged in the end of the residence.
Thereafter, we focused on the enhancement and highlight of the building’s special style. A “white canvas” with elegant plaster decoration, is the base on which modern and vintage furniture, sculpture-based constructions and special decorations, are being combined.
A symphony of materials, such as the mortar style technique, the blue and terracotta shaded floor made of wood and stone, highlights in various ways, specific parts of the residence, such as the dining room, the entrance area, the living room and the bedroom. As a result, a “blend” of various quality elements is being created, along with special objects, lights and fabrics, complementing this proposal.
On the exterior, the pattern “base, trunk, crown” is being distinguished. One level above the busy road, the middle level reveals the entire volume of the residence. Movement and relaxation areas are unified through the single mosaic floor around the building.
